Zeena had a fight (heated arguments) with her partner. Later, when she thinks about it she feels ashamed as how immature she behaved! Yet she doesn’t want to admit it to her partner thinking that would make her look like a looser. Ultimately their relationship degrades.

Perhaps Zeena and her partner could have done much better if at least one of them had a higher Emotional Intelligence (EQ). Recently I read this book, “7 Steps to Emotional Intelligence“, which helped me learn more about this kind of things and what to do to improve our EQ, so I thought I would share it with our readers. Regardless of the discipline that you choose to focus on, almost all graduate school applications consist of the same basic components

  • GRE or other standardized test scores
  • Transcript
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Personal statement and/or admission essays

The GRE or Graduation Record Examination or GRE is one of the most common standardized tests that you would need to take for graduate school.

The GRE General Test measures critical thinking, analytical writing, verbal reasoning as well as quantitative reasoning skills.  As far as I am aware, computer based GRE tests are available around the year in Dhaka. The American Center, the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy, Dhaka (formerly USIS) would be the best place for obtaining the most up-to-date information about the testing sites in Dhaka as well as for picking up the latest GRE bulletin if you wish to do so. Leana has just got a call from a prospective employer and has been invited to an interview.  She is very excited but a bit nervous at the same time.  She has never been to any interviews and has no clue on how to prepare for the upcoming interview.  Leana has about a week to prepare herself. 

We all go through this phase with our very first (or even with others) interviews.  Today we will learn about the basics of how to prepare for an interview.  Below are the key areas to include in your preparations.

  1. Research the company and the industry.
  2. Prepare a one minute sales pitch on yourself (that you can say while asked to tell about yourself). (more…)
