Let’s Relive Our Passion this New Year
Are you one of those women who have given up a hobby or an ambition due to unavoidable circumstances in life? If yes then do you regret it? Have you ever thought of rejuvenating your hobby or ambition?
If your answers to the 1st 2 questions are yes, then do not be disheartened. Many women around the world have given up their interest to serve the interests of others, be it their family, their husband, children or the in laws. I was watching this music video the other day where 3 homemakers in India renews their passion for dancing, poetry and fashion designing all of which they had left when they got married. Fortunately for the women in the music video their husbands & in laws were supportive, a state every women expect to have in their lives.
In many countries women have come a long way. Many are well educated, work outside home, and manage both the home and work perfectly well. In all this some still fail to maintain their hobby or end up doing something which they don’t want to do, but their parents, husband or extended family think is the best thing for them to do.
For the modern women, it often becomes difficult to maintain the multiple demands of the household and the public world which forces her to give up her ambitions. A good way to deal with such situation would be to find a way to incorporate her passion within her household or work. If someone has a knack for writing, she can easily peruse her higher education in literature to ultimately attain a job which provides her with a platform to explore her passion further. When one enjoys her work, no matter how uncommon of a profession one chooses, she is sure to excel, ensuring a decent income.
For the homemakers, hobbies like designing & stitching, singing, dancing or painting can actually give her a chance to earn some extra cash at home, which might convince her family to support her to bring in a secondary income into the household.
And for those who have just forgotten their passion while achieving material or relational superiority, maybe 2008 will be a time to rejuvenate their previous interests. One can easily take out an hour to two each week to indulge themselves into a work of interest. Not only will it recuperate your mundane life, it may provide you with some extra income, expertise, or social or cultural superiority.
I would like to know from Adhunika readers if any of them have forgotten about their interests in the past. Can they think of ways to revive their interests?

This is a very nice article. I think women (and men) have lost their passion because they now have become part of the rat race. The lifestyle now is busy, busy, busy. My father started playing golf when he was 43. He thought himself how to play this game and became a very avid and good player. On average, he would play 4 - 8 hours a week. 22 years later, he is still going strong. He (65 years old) is extremely fit and walks faster than many people half his age. Yes, my father is a man, but to pursue a passion, you need commitment, persistence, patience and time.
I think the question is doing something that you can really lose yourself in it and making the time to do it. Also family encouragement makes a world of difference too.
That is all. Happy New Year 2008

Thanks for this nice article Nazia. New year is a actually a nice time to rejuvenate ourselves. Its a time when we come up with a resolution list for the year with new hopes and expectations and make sure we are determine about it. Its a time for us to remind ourselves of what are the things we planned to do but could not for different reasons. And I also think this is one best time we really should think about the hobby and ambition we are passionate about to give a try
I am a kind of person who believe in “never give up” phrase, so whatever the obstacles are I generally never quit. I believe in the beauty of trying not in only winning
However, because of certain restriction and circumstances I could never learn how to draw. That one hobby I am always passionate about
So, this year I have decided to learn how to draw. I am quite matured and I know its kind a too late
but I think it does not matter. I don’t want to become Picaso or M. F Hussain…I want to draw for myself….for my pleasure…something my heart wants me to do…so this year my wish is to learn how to draw and I hope I am able to do it this time with no excuses/obstacles.
Thanks again Nazia for this thought provoking and inspiring piece of writing!
